Vinyl flooring may be composed of either vinyl sheets or vinyl tiles. Both the materials are composite, layered construction made of a protective urethane layer, protective clear film that induces durability and printed design of unique patterns. In addition to these vinyl sheets have a felt bottom layer that adheres to the floor and a fiberglass structural layer that affords dimensional stability and a cushioned pad for feet comfort.

Detailed guidelines towards vinyl floor maintenance can be obtained from the manufacturers of the vinyl floor tiles. Care of vinyl floor tile starts right after the time of installation. After the application of the seam it needs to be protected for 8 hours. This ensures proper bonding. If the seams are disturbed before they become completely dry, it may result in permanent damage to the floor. Vinyl floor should not be scrubbed or washed for 5 days after installation to ensure proper drying of the adhesive.

The shine and the fresh feel of the floor can be maintained for a long time if you take care of vinyl floor tile. Spills should be wiped immediately or as soon as possible. Detergents, abrasive cleaners, paste wax or solvent-based polishes can result in a residual dull film on the floor.

Moving heavy appliances or furniture around the floor needs to be done with great care. Vinyl floor tile may be scratched extensively so floor protectors are recommended to reduce scuffing and indentation. Generally heavy furniture requires a wider floor protector.

There are several products available in the market for vinyl floor tile care and stain removal. Some liquids used in the household activities can also be used for stain removal. For example, to get rid of the crayon stains on the floor rub the stain with mineral spirits or turpentine on a clean white cloth. Similarly lipstick stain can be removed by rubbing it with alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) followed by mineral spirits or turpentine. Many stains like those of grape juice, pen ink, mustard, marker, hair dye and varnish can be removed with alcohol.
