Measurements
Measuring the room is the first step in wood floor installation. Measuring is not as simple as running a tape along the length and breadth. It is slightly more complex. Since you are a first timer at installing hard wood floor, we need to consider a slight margin for error. The equation is like this. Multiply the length by the width and the resultant number by 1.1. This will give you a 10% margin. So even if you break a plank or two, you can still continue with successful installation.

Preparation
This step is relatively easy. You need to scrape your room clear of any sort of dirt or dust. Before you install laminate wood flooring, take a look at the sub floor as well. It needs to be level enough so that your floor will be smooth as well. A bumpy sub floor is the last thing you need before installing wood floor.
