A wooden floor is the crowning glory of any home. If maintained well, a wooden floor can give years and years of shiny trouble free service. But most wooden floors tend to fade and get a lot of scratches over the years. It requires a makeover to get it back in pristine condition. You can choose from a variety of finishes for your wood floor. From a shiny glossy oil based finish to a dull matte based finish, you can get them all for your wooden floor. A laminate wood floor or 8mm flooring with textured finish can be a stunning addition to your room.

Preparing The Room
Before you plan to apply the finish, it is crucial that you prepare the room for it. Remove all furniture, oil and dirt from the floor. Clear the underlayment of any bumps. If there are any bumps, the finish on the wood floor will be bumpy and uneven as well. Once you have prepared the room, the next step is to apply the finish.

Finishes
There are lots of finishes that you can choose from depending on the décor and the theme of the room. A very popular finish is the floor mill old wood finish. This gives the floor a look of a vintage old mill floor. It will have controlled and concealed cracks and scratches. People prefer the hard wood floor finish for their study rooms and living rooms. The wood floor oil finish is the most sought after and widely used one as it prepares a protective covering on top of the floor. Oil modified urethane finish is the most common one. Faux finishing is also seem commonly in living rooms. A wood floor faux finish involves creating geometrical patterns on the wood floor. The common patterns are checker boards and rectangular patterns but other intricate designs are also possible.

A water based wood floor finish is also extremely popular nowadays. The best part about these finishes is that they dry extremely fast almost within two to three hours. Hence they are much more expensive than the oil based ones. If you have trouble with water seepage, then you might consider using moisture cure wood floor finish. This prevents moisture from entering deep into the wood surface and will save the wood from deteriorating further. The varathane diamond wood floor finish is also extremely popular.
